Focus: Gamification, Getting up to Speed


When we talk about “gamification” here at Daily Edventures, we’re not talking about any particular game, software program, or piece of hardware. Game-based learning is more than a trend; it’s a powerful new way of thinking about making the entire learning process more effective. Past interviewees like Sebastian Deterding and Donald Brinkman have shared fascinating insights on the subject.

This great infographic, from Knewton, provides an overview of games in education, from the “why?” to the “how?” It also provides a history of gamification, starting in 1985 (can you believe it?) with “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?”  We’ll be talking much more about gamification in 2013, so here’s a good look at the basics to get you started.
