“Every time we make an innovation as a teacher it propels the student’s hidden talent and thinking to emulate and strive to do better ” – Puran Singh India
In today’s Daily Edventure I learned about Puran Singh’s many accomplishments and views on education in India.
Puraan worked at Sri Aurobindo International school for about 3 years where he developed many math projects under this program with an emphasis on activity based projects. The goal of his projects was to raise the academic standard of students as well as making the students realize the importance of using computers.
Why is education important to you?
It strives to make an individual more rational. It kindles the spark within a human mind which fabricates wonderful technical innovations .It also enables an individual to assess his talent and then leading a life having a specific goal.
Can you describe the teacher who most influenced you?
During my school days S. Rupinder Singh a teacher in our school, having cool and calm personality and possessing a good talent in calligraphy.
Describe the most inspiring day you’ve experienced as an educator.
While displaying a math project on computer a below average student in math responded and took up the challenge of attempting the question on his own. From that day I started to supplement my teaching withICT tools.
What is your proudest professional achievement (briefly describe the work you are most recognized for)?
One of the teachers who tried to collaborate their regular teaching with PBL (project
based learning ) and then receiving inaugural National Award (ICT) for the year 2010.
How can other educators facing similar challenges implement what you’ve learned?
I have been motivating other teachers by presenting my work in Seminars and Workshops, uploading my PBLs on DE Punjab.org ,Inspiring many individuals in school to use computer.
If you could change one thing about today’s “system” of education, what would it be?
Less syllabus more Practical activities and making computer a major subject.
What is the best opportunity for innovation in education?
A beginning has been made by introduction of computers in almost every government school. Now the need is to sustain the progress made, further training to teachers using
computer as a tool in their teaching work for achieving better results.
What advice would you give a new teacher (or to anyone wanting to make a difference in education)?
It is simple,” Use technology and see the difference”.
What is your greatest hope for the future of education (in your country?)?
Every time we make an innovation as a teacher it propels the student’s hidden talent and thinking to emulate and strive to do better.
